From the President's Desk
With the start of the 2002 fall season, the North Soccer Club will begin its second decade. Coinciding with this milestone, North Soccer Club players will also be wearing a new uniform. This change is necessary as the current Union Jack shirts are being discontinued. Earlier this year, a Uniform Committee was formed to explore new uniform options. On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to thank Scott Wade, Sue Casey, Darlene Markie and Helen O'Halloran for serving on this committee and for all their time and efforts. At a special meeting on May 3rd, the Uniform Committee made its presentation to the North Soccer Club Board, and their recommendation was accepted. The new uniform will consist of a red Diadora shirt, black checkerboard shorts and black socks. The logo on the shirt will be a modified version of the anniversary patch that was used at the Foxboro Cup. In addition, the new club uniform policy is that families will now purchase and own the jersey rather than having to turn it in at the end of the season. The price for the jersey and shorts will be $25. This cost represents approximately half the cost of the new uniform with the club subsidizing the balance. One of the reasons for this subsidy is that after much discussion it was decided that players would not be allowed to put their name on the shirts. One of the reasons for this is that some people expressed a concern over safety about putting children's names on shirts, and as all players would have to comply it would be difficult to enforce. Adding names to shirts also adds to the cost of the uniform and would prohibit the resale or passing on of a shirt. The procedure for distribution of the new uniforms will be established in the near future and fall coaches and/or administrators will have the details. We are excited about this change and look forward to seeing the kids in their new outfits. Please feel free to contact any member of the board or me with questions about the new uniform or uniform policy.
Sincerely,
Martin Grealish
President
North Soccer Club

- If you are not sure about what size(s) you want to purchase, we will have items available for you to try on at the distribution.
- We realize that it is August and some of you will be out of town on vacation. But, if you are in town, please make an effort to attend this distribution. The season starts soon and we have over 200 players registered. Individual fittings at Scott's house are not practical. Besides, the NSC Board does not recommend trying on clothing in the poison ivy-laced woods next to his house.
- In an effort to delay the inevitable future duplication of jersey numbers on a team, groups of jersey numbers have been reserved for each gender and age group.
- Guidelines on how we will handle duplicate numbers will be issued later in the year. We do not anticipate any duplication this year and we expect very few, if any, next year.
- Game jerseys must be purchased through the club. However, you may purchase shorts and/or socks elsewhere as long as they exactly match the style and color of those available through the club.
- If you have any questions and/or you are not able to attend the distribution sessions listed above, please contact Scott Wade at thewades@attbi.com or 508-695-1890 regarding alternate arrangements.
