It hardly seems possible but the North Soccer Club is starting its fifth season. Starting with six teams and about eighty players, the Club has grown to twenty-two teams with over two hundred fifty indoor and one hundred seventy outdoor players.
The first NSC game featured the Under 10 Boys Sidekicks posting the Clubs first win. The Sidekicks went on to win the Club's first medal, taking the silver medal in the first session at the John Smith sports Center. In the last few years, two NSC teams have won a "triple crown" in the Spring outdoor session. The Under 14 Girls Stars and the Under 12 Boys Blast won their divisions at the Foxborough Cup Tournament, the John Smith/ Boston Globe Tournament and their respective BAYS League Division. Competitive soccer has arrived and is doing well in North Attleborough!
In spite of the pride we have in our winning teams, we want to point out the original goals of the North Soccer Club. The Club was established to provide competitive soccer programs which did not then exist to North Attleborough children. We wanted to provide the opportunity to learn and improve soccer skills, to develop an interest in soccer and to develop players for our high school program. If we succeeded in those things, winning would follow and it certainly has. The NSC is a compliment to the Town's Recreational program. Many of the NSC players also play in the Rec progrwn. Not every team will win, but hopefully they will have a fun and learning experience.
The Club sponsors fall and spring outdoor travel teams, winter indoor soccer teams for three sessions, the John Smith Soccer Camp for Recreation level players, the MLS Soccer Camp for travel players, Coaching Clinics and is currently upgrading Rose Field for use as a full size soccer field. We expect the field to be completed this spring. We will do a few fund-raisers during the year to defray the costs of all of our activities. We also have some fun type events. In the last few years we have had a Spaghetti Dinner, a Big Breakfast, Parent Appreciation Dances, as well as our Annual Banquet.
The Club uniform remains the same; red checkerboard shorts, black socks and the white and black NSC shirt. No other uniforms are authorized. Please remember- the shirt remains the property of the North Soccer Club. It must be returned when your child finishes playing for the Club. The fee you pay does not include the shirt.
As many of you know, our Club Treasurer, Coach and co-founder, Steve Dailey, has had eye problems over the last year or so and has had surgery to correct these problems. On December 6th, Steve suffered another hemorrhage leaving him legally blind. The situation has improved as of this writing and is expected to continue to improve. He will be undergoing another surgery in February to help clear the problem. In December, volunteers took up a collection for the Dailey family and your response was just beyond all expectations. The Dailey family wishes to thank everyone who contributed so generously to the collection. Steve and Debbie were absolutely overwhelmed when they received the card and gift. The North Soccer Club has turned out to be an outstanding organization due to the hard work of the Club's founders and officers, but especially the members and parents who have made the Club a success far beyond anything ever imagined.
The first question asked at the first North Soccer Club practice session had nothing to do with soccer. It was "Are we going to get jackets?" Now you will see many of the black NSC jackets around town. The jackets are embroidered instead of screen printed. Order forms have been distributed along with instructions. The forms are good all year and may be copied. We had to replace the Reebok warm-up suits this year as Reebok did not deliver as promised. The new suits look great and still carry the all important "NORTH SOCCER" name. If you didn't get one, ask your Coach.
Tryouts
All team selections are made by tryouts. Teams change each season: fall, indoor and spring. Teams change each year based on age as of July 31st for the following 12 months. Roster size varies with each session, level of competition and age group. Any questions should be referred to one of the Board members.
The restoration of Rose Field is continuing on schedule. The field has been graded, seeded, fertilized and an underground sprinkler system has been installed on the field located next to the North Attleborough Junior Hgh School. Many people have helped and a number of donations were made in this project. We will be printing a complete list of donors in an upcoming newsletter. This past year we reseeded and fertilized and we expect to have a good looking field next spring. Unfortunately, due to a long string of events, the water was never turned on last year. Only a rainy summer saved our investment. The School Dept. has agreed to get the water turned on this year. More clean up work will be needed in the springtime and further donations will be gratefully accepted. Donations to the Club are Tax deductible as the Club is a Massachusetts non-profit, tax exempt corporation.
The North Soccer Club is run by volunteers. As the Club has grown from 80 to over 250 players, the need for volunteers has also grown. We need people to serve as Team Administrators, newspaper reporters, event coordinators, etc. Put your talents to use. Tell your coach or a Board member that you would like to help. Remember, these are YOUR children.
The Club will be sponsoring a record 21 indoor teams at the John Smith Sports Centers in Milford and Bridgewater. From Under 8 Boys and U8 Girls up to U17 teams. Fees will be $60 per session for Under 8, 10, 12: and $65 per session for Under 14 and Under 16. All fees must be paid in advance at registration nights to be scheduled. Any returned check will incur a $20 charge in order to cover the costs to the Club. This is without regard to the reason for the returned item. We also have had to add a late payment fee of five dollars if you do not make the required payment on time and no alternate arrangement has been made.
No child will be denied the opportunity to play because of financial problems. Please call the Club Treasurer to discuss your situation on a confidential basis.
Please remember, schedules are set by the facilities we play in; we do not control the playing times. We try to request the best times available but sometimes there are no alternative times. All team placements are at the discretion of the Board of Directors whose decision is final.
The North Soccer Club, Ltd. is a Massachusetts non-profit corporation and is exempt from taxation under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Donations to the Club are tax deductible, payments for playing, camps or equipment are not deductible. The Club is currently seeking the donation of a 486/66MHz computer and a small office copier. The current computer, a donated 286 has outlived its useful life.
